Pandemic AT Support for K-12 Education

Initiative Description

The Georgia AT Program, Tools for Life (TFL) grew collaboration with local school districts across Georgia to ensure they benefited from the existing assistive technology partnership with the Georgia Department of Education. This expanded K-12 partnership provides learning software, AT loan equipment and consultation services to teachers, therapists, and administrators serving students with disabilities, who are eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA 2004) or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Lessons Learned/Replication

Through this expanded Assistive Technology Partnership, 130 school districts received software, including 435,187 licenses for individual students with disabilities. TFL is actively growing this collaboration due to its high impact to school districts in Georgia and also expanding into a collaboration with the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency and the University System of Georgia to replicate the centralized buying concept for cost efficiency. This collaboration could be replicated with funding to support the centrailized buying mechanism and TFL can support others looking to replicate this approach.
