Initiative Description
The Illionois Assistive Technology Program (IATP), Senior Independent Living Collaborative (SILC) and other Illinois aging and disability organizations partnered to produce the Smart Self Reliance website (https://smartselfreliance.org/). This new online resource provides guidance and resources on smart devices and services that can improve the independence and quality of life for people with disabilities and older adults aging in place across Illinois. Content on the site allows users to learn how today's smart devices and services can support living more safely, securely, comfortably and affordably.
Lessons Learned/Replication
IATP contributed significant resources into the types of smart home technology that are found in the website content and provided document content used on the website. IATP also conducted an ICT accessibility training and did a website accessibility audit for the partners and the company that designed the website. IATP will continue to collaborate with SILC Research as IATP is seeking funding to expands its services to include a model smart home center and mobile unit.
